INF6023   Management and Strategy for Digital Libraries   (30 credits)

Description

The module explores the strategic, technical and management issues relating to electronic resource management and digital libraries. Students will investigate and debate competing visions of the digital library. They will build up an understanding of the broad technical challenges in the areas of information retrieval, information architecture, ICTs, standards development and interoperability. Management concerns such as legal, economic and ethical issues as well as aspects of project management and evaluation will be explored. Students will emerge equipped with an understanding of the key players, processes and technologies involved in user centred digital library initiatives. In Semester two, students will work together on joint projects to investigate an issue in depth, and learn practical project management techniques.
